Description

  • Length: 5"
  • Wing span: 6"
  • Weight: 0.39oz (11grams)
  • Small brown bird with a thin bill
  • Dark cap with a whit'ish eyeline
  • Bold black, white and brown patterned back
  • Grey'ish breast and buffy flanks
  • No differences in plumage between males and females
  • Juveniles look like adults but lack the boldly patterned back
    Marsh Wrens inhabit a variety of marshy areas especially when dense reeds are present

 

Factoids:

  • Wing span is about the same length as a $1 dollar bill & weighs about as much as 2 quarters ($0.50)
  • Eastern and Western populations show slight variations in both appearance and song. These differences may mean that they are actually different species
